Institute
for Oriental Study, Thane, is a voluntary organization registered
under Societies Registration Act and Bombay (Maharashtra) Public Trusts
Act. Donations to the Institute are exempt from Income Tax Act under
under section 80(g).
The Institute is working for
the promotion of Indian Culture and Sanskrit language. To achieve
this we organize various seminars, lectures, workshops and exhibitions
periodically. We are also trying to establish a research library
and museum at Thane. At present we have about 15,000 volumes and
about 3000 sanskrit paper manuscripts. These activities require
huge expenditure. We have no Government Grants. The activities of
the Institute are run by Individual donations. A cursory glance
at our Website, specially the seminars conducted by us during the
last 15 years will give the idea of work done by us during this
period.
This is the age of knowledge
and information. So we are trying to develop and enrich our library
by acquiring books by donation. Most of the collection of ours today,
is by individual donations to the library. To make library
rich in references we need to add literally thousands of books.
The only source is to purchase books, as many of the books are getting
out of print in this field. Various Western Universities have also
published remarkable titles on Indian and Sanskrit Studies. We only
can acquire them either through a philanthropist donation or purchase.
We are also computerizing our library so atleast the accession of
the books will be available online. There are various journals published
within and outside India related to the subject. We are just not
able to subscribe to them due to lack of funds. I am sure this situation
can change, if you wish so. Your becoming friend of the Institute
will not only help us financially but will also be a great source
of Inspiration as well as encouragement to us. I request you
humbly, to become a friend of the Institute.
