In this paper an attempt has
been made to know that state of agriculture as depicted in Kautiliya Arthashastra,
Kautiliya Arthashastra is a well-known work in politics, administration
and political economy. At that time economy was mainly dependent on agriculture.
Naturally in Arthashastra we come across many references, which throw light
on the state of agriculture at the time of the work's composition (around
321 B.C.)
1. The policy of the state regarding agriculture.
2. The features which indicate long-term planning.
3. State land, state officials responsible for development of agriculture
& functions.
4. Various regional crops that are mentioned.
5. General methods of agriculture used.
6. Rain & Sources of water supply.
7. Emergency measures at the time of natural calamity.
8. Other related industries to agriculture. Relevance to modern times.
