SOME OF THE AGRICULTURAL, FOREST AND ANIMAL
PRODUCE IN ANCIENT INDIA.
Pandit  Dr. B. D. Dandavate

Ayurvedic-Classics mainly deal with maintenance of health, prevention and curing of diseases. Ayurveda considers man a part & parcel of the universe. From this point of view, Ayurveda is not merely a medical science, but a way of living. The beauty of Ayurveda is that it incorporates all aspects of  human life.

Therefore, it is, indeed an alloy of the Art-Science-Way and also philosophy of 'Whole Life'. A meticulous study of the Ayurvedic classics reveals  that the ancient Indian physicians have employed everything around them for achieving their goal. During the period of the most ancient and yet the foremost of all Ayurvedic classics viz., the Caraka-Samhita, all parts of the plant kingdom, animal kingdom and minerals & metals were used as remedies. It is emphatically said that there is no substance  which cannot be used as a means of remedy. All organic and inorganic substances were scientifically and systematically classified. All the classics are replete with direct references to the agricultural- Forest-Animal-Produce profusely used in diet-drinks and medicines. Contents of this paper have been made to throw light on (1) Land (2) Types of regions (3) Agricultural, Forest and Animal Produce (4) Description of changing climate & environ during each season (5) Classification and sources of the dietary articles (6) Names of many kinds of natural produce with passing reference to their important properties.
